It's really over...
So I just realized that I forgot to blog on wednesday and thursday. Oops. Sorry Joe! But anyways on Wednesday, I pretty much did my usual thing, finished up my powerpoint presentation which looked okay I guess. And then thursday we went to the U of R and did a run through our presentations and watched the U of R interns present their projects also. I thought some of them were pretty interesting. And we got free pizza =) so that's always a plus. Then I came back early to RIT and my advisor said he didn't have anything for me to do... so he told me to go home. And today, we had our final presentations. I think mine went fairly well I guess. I think all of the other interns did a really good job! Anyways after that, we got our posters and mine is kind of messed up. It looked fine on the powerpoint when I did it, but now some of my words are overlapped. =/ I had a really great experience during this internship and it was nice meeting all these new people. I will definately remember this as a positive experience. Well I guess this is my last and final blog, how sad... I hope all the other interns have an awesome senior year because I know I will !

Busy Busy Busy!
Today I kept busy pretty much all day, which was good. This morning, I did some measurements on the grating particles and measured diameter of the particles. Then I processed some film, went to lunch, and later on scanned those images. Then I did some analysis on those asbestos samples and the electron defraction samples. I also worked on threshold adjustment techniques. I measured the equalized image particles compared to the gray scale image particles and adjusted the threshold accordingly. Then I did +/- 10 and +/- 20 of the threshold and observed the changes in the diameters of the particles. I realized that +/- 10 doesn't really make a difference, but +/- 20 can really make a difference in the diameters of the particles. That's all for now!

Last Monday of the Internship
So today is the last Monday of this 7 week internship. Wow it went by fast, much like today. This morning I worked on the final draft of my poster so I could give it to Joe to be printed. I think it turned out pretty decent actually. I like the colors of my backgrounds. They go well together. Anyways, after I finished my poster, I worked on some particle analysis and developed a lot of film. After that I went to lunch and came back to do the scanning of the images I processed this morning. While I was doing that, I filled out the College of Imaging Science 2008 Summer Intern Feedback form. I wrote a lot of stuff down. Then I worked on making a histogram using excel. And that's pretty much my day!

Friday!
Today was pretty short for me. This morning I developed some film and did some image analysis on the pictures that I scanned yesterday. Then I went to lunch with my mom. After that, I scanned the images I developed this morning and did some analysis on those. And that's pretty much it. There was nothing else for me to do in the lab so I got out early today. Only one more week to go... it went by so fast.

August 14th
So here's my blog for today:
Today was a very slow day. This morning, I finished scanning the pictures I developed from yesterday. And then I processed some more film. After that I went on a short lunch. When I came back, I scanned the images that I processed today. I feel like this is all I do. But that's ok. And now I have to leave early for my dentist appointment =/ boo.

August 13th
Well I forgot to blog yesterday, so here is yesterday's blog:
So today we went on a field trip to Optimax. We normally take one of those white golden memories buses. So it looked like an ordinary bus, one we would normally ride on. But as soon as we walked onto the bus, everyone went nuts. It turned out to be a party bus... there was a leather couch running all the way around the inside of the bus, sparkling colored lights on the ceiling, mirrors, radio, window blinds, tv's. It was amazing. I think it was nicer than the party bus that we took to prom, sadly. But anyways that was mad fun. When we got to Optimax, we got a brief presentation and then split up into 4 groups and had a tour of some of the stations in the manufacturing section. And I guess I shouldn't say any more because I might get my head chopped off for saying something I'm not supposed to. (I wonder if I was supposed to write about Bausch and Lomb earlier... oops). But yeah and then we got a free pair of sunglasses, a lens, and a beer coozie? Ha. And on the way home, we stopped at Amiel's again. They have good cookies.
And for the remainder of the day, I processed some film, and scanned a couple of images. And thats pretty much it! I'll blog later about what I did today!

One of those days...
Today was one of those days that I thought would never end. This morning, all I did was work on my poster and then I showed it to Joe. After that, I made some changes to my poster and started my PowerPoint Presentation. Then I went to lunch. I went to go sit on the red chairs down in the lobby to read, but then i realized that they had moved them and replaced them with tables for the Girl Scout thing, so I didn't have a place to read =/. But anyways after lunch, I did some more work on my PowerPoint. And when I got sick of that I did some image analysis. Can't wait for tomorrow's field trip!

Workin on the Poster
The majority of my day was spent creating my poster for our final presentation. I'm using PowerPoint and I think it's going pretty well. I'm having some trouble figuring out what to write for text on my poster, so today I mostly put images and labels on the poster. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have some inspiration to figure out what to write (key word hopefully). I had no idea you could create a huge poster using simple programs such as PowerPoint or Word. But it's pretty straight forward. I also developed some film today and scanned many images onto the computer. I also did some image analysis. Yup so that's pretty much it for today. Now I just have to finish my poster tomorrow...

Fast Day
Today was probably the fastest working day of this internship. This morning, all of us interns went over to the Louise Slaughter Building and had breakfast and had an introduction from the Dean of the College of Science. After that, I came back and finished the analysis I was working on yesterday. Then I went back for a presentation on the role of seventeen magazine on female adolescent self-image: images of models and their impact. This was very interesting to me because seventeen is my favorite magazine, it's like my bible. Anyways after that I processed some more film. After lunch I worked on more analysis and scanned more images onto the computer. Then I went to two back-to-back presentations. The first one was identity formation and expression through baggy clothing in the inner-city African-American adolescent male. I know it sounds kind of dumb but it wasn't really all about the baggy pants. It was about the fact that cops often search African-Americans more so than whites. It is an ongoing issue in today's society. I thought it was pretty interesting. After that I watch the dream, the reality, the actions: a study of changing American values and attitudes in the 21st century. This one was alright I guess. (If anyone can't tell by reading this, I'm really into sociology). But that was pretty much my day. And now for the weekend!

Short
Well this is going to be an extremely short blog since this was a short day for me. Anyways, today I scanned all of the images i processed yesterday, onto the computer. I had a slight problem with the scanner. It was making all sorts of weird noises like springs breaking or something. I was worried. So we opened it up and checked it out. Nothing seemed to be wrong. So we looked at the scanning holder thing and it had a whole bunch of scratches on it. Turns out a piece of plastic from the holder broke off, and was stuck in the holder causing it to scrape inside the scanner. What a pain. Now we have to order a new holder. Oh well.
After that issue I finished scanning and did some analysis of particle samples.
Tomorrow's friday!

So this morning I updated a lot of the spread sheets and developed some film. Then I went to the free lunch at the college of science bbq. It was delicious! Then after I went to pick up my senior pictures =) Who would have thought that they would cost your life savings?!
After that I scanned more images onto the computer. And I HAND-MEASURED like 11 samples and measured the distance between a certain number of squares. Sounds fun right? I had a blast let me tell you. Well anyways after that I did more updates on the excel sheets. Yup that's pretty much it for today. Peace.

Recovering
Sorry about the missing blog yesterday, I was home sick with a fever and aches =/
But anyways, today I scanned images throughout the whole morning. And then my advisor had people come in to meet with him, so that's when I took lunch, a late lunch. And after that I did some analysis of images. I'm so excited that we finally figured out the scale of pixels per nanometer! It's 7.38 pixels/nm. Now I am actually getting realistic numbers for my averages. More on this tomorrow. Peace!

Short Day
Well this morning I went to an experiment for the visual perception group with Upasana and we were able to look at each other from cameras in different rooms and communicate to each other. We guided each other through maps and questionaires. I think the purpose was to track where people look at when they are communicating with others. I think it went well.
After that, I developed a double batch of film and scanned more images on to the computer. And I will be attending Dr. Easton's talk this afternoon. And after I have to leave early to check in for college & career!
